The Iranian-French director goes to the court !
BBC's report on the situation of Ms. Mehrnoush Soluki

Ms. Soluki is an Iranian origin director and citizen of France and since 2003 she lived in Montreal Canada . She is going to be tried in a closed door court in Iran on November 17 /2007.

She is 38 years old and is educated in a university in Quebec. Her family members and even the people are not allowed to attend in the court. She was arrested after an interview with a family member of an oppsition leader in Tehran and spent one month in the notorious Evin prison.

Ms. Soluki emigrated from France to Canada in 2003 and had recieved a permission from the Iranian authority to make a film about the event after the Iran - Iraq war.

After release from prison Ms. Soluki has been banned from leaving Iran. The Iranian officials has confiscated her notes and recorded film. She has a French passport and about her imprisonment she said: The action of the regime to arrest me is " very strange" . Because her film has not been made yet and there are no advertisement for it .

RSF and Amnesty International are following her case . RSF Said that : Her family in France have mortgaged their home to bail her out in March. Ms. Soluki has spent one month in solitary confinement in Evin prison and she was released when her family paid the $116,000 bail.

Ms. Soluki have said : Why they won't let me leave Iran? Is it because i'm a French citizen? Or because of living in Montreal ? Or may be it is because of being an independent film maker. ?
in 2003 the Iranian authorities arrested and killed Iranian- Canadian photojournalist Zahra Kazemi for taking picture outside the Evin prison.Her crime was because of " disclosing the secrets" during students uprising.
