IRAN WATCH CANADA

Thursday, November 22, 2007

Dr. Abdolkarim Lahiji vice president of the International Federation of Human Rights (FIDH) in speaking with Roozonline:
UN third committee's session on Iran violating the human rights was ended with the following vote:70+ , 50- and 55 abstein.
More countries voted against Iran this year. In previous year the difference of positive and negative vote was only three votes but this year the difference is 22 vote.
This shows that the world knows more about the deteriorating situation of human rights in Iran and this is because of the efforts by the human rights advocates.
In last year, Iran had one case of stonning to death and the number of people were executed was so high, which made many to worry about the situation.
All countries that are member of the UN are also member of the third committee.
Persuasion by Canada and 40 other countries ended with a strong resolution against Islamic Republic of Iran for violating the human rights. In two weeks from now this resolution goes back to UN General Assembly for final vote. The problem of the regime in Iran is not only the nuclear energy .
